Do you love makeup and refuse to leave the house without it, but your school won't allow you to wear it?
If your school is super strict about make-up then I suggest you follow the rules, but if you have blemish-prone skin and really want some coverage, then there are some tips and tricks that can get you there. It is all about keeping your makeup looking very natural, so that means no foundation, blush, or eyeliner. It means sticking with the basics, like BB Cream, clear mascara, and lip balm. I was lucky enough to receive some products from The Body Shop to review (thanks Amy from Two Birds Talking PR), so I decided to incorporate them into this post.
The Body Shop is amazing because the company has strong ethical values to do with the creation of products, for example, they are against animal testing, support community fair trade, and work to protect the planet. You can read up on and check out the rest of their values here! So without further ado, here is a natural makeup tutorial for school which will take you about 5 minutes to create - so its perfect if you're running late!
1. Start with a light-weight BB Cream
If you have blemish-prone skin, then The Body Shop Tea Tree Flawless BB Cream is perfect to use. It is great because tea tree oil has disinfecting properties which kills bacteria on the face and works to get rid of acne. I would say that the coverage is light to medium, but it can be built up to cover more prominent blemishes. However, I believe that the less you use the better, as firstly it looks more natural, and secondly it will let your skin breathe. Also, a little goes a long way, so start with a pea-sized amount and build it up if need be. This BB cream has a strong tea tree oil scent, which I really love as it smells quite refreshing.
The Body Shop All-In-One BB Cream is just as good as the one mentioned above, and is great because it is colour adapting. It starts as a white cream but when applied it adapts to your skin tone , giving you natural coverage in the perfect shade. Its coverage starts as light but can be built up to medium, depending on how many layers you apply. But once again, in this instance, the less you apply the better as you are going for a very natural look.
Both BB creams are quite lightweight which make them look and feel natural on the skin. Their lasting power is quite good, however, I have oily skin so I notice that by around midday I can see quite a bit oil starting to show through in my T-Zone. Though, that does mean that I have had close to 6 hours of solid coverage which is great! These BB creams are not drying on the skin at all and provide flawless natural coverage which is quite long-wearing. If you have oily skin like I do, I suggest using blotting paper to absorb any excess oil.
2. Apply a clear mascara to your lashes and eyebrows
While you may be used to wearing more dramatic eye makeup on the weekends, you need to tone it down for school. For example, you can achieve beautiful doe-like eyes by using a clear mascara to lengthen eyelashes instead of dark mascara or eyeliner. The Body Shop Brow & Lash Gel is great because it is a multi-purpose product. You can use it to lengthen your eyelashes and to smooth your eyebrows in place. Even though this product is a gel, it does not dry hard or crunchy and therefore does not look super obvious on your brows or lashes - it's perfect for a subtle school look.
* This picture makes the gel look slightly cream-coloured, however it is actually completely clear.
3. Apply a natural coloured lip balm to your lips
To add a subtle pop of colour to your makeup look, a tinted lip balm is perfect! Try The Body Shop Strawberry Born Lippy for a gorgeous subtle pink sheen. Firstly, it smooths and moisturises your lips, and secondly the colour brightens up your face and looks really pretty. The colour is also very subtle so it looks natural enough for school. The lip balm is super softening (not sticky) and tastes amazing; it is strawberry flavoured and smells good enough to eat!
Wearing makeup can build up on your skin if you don't remove it properly, so it's always great to exfoliate your face once a week to clear your pores. The Body Shop Tea Tree Squeaky-Clean Scrub unclogs pores and is suitable for blemished skin, so you don't have to worry about worsening any pimples you have by scrubbing your skin. I absolutely love this product! It has tea-tree oil in it which makes it smell amazing, but it also feels super refreshing on the skin - my pores feel so open and clean! This exfoliating scrub is one of the best I have ever tried. I definitely recommend you try it out if you are looking for a good one.
There are only 3 simple steps to this makeup look, so you can throw it together in less than 5 minutes which is perfect if you slept in and are running late, or if you want more time in the morning to eat a leisurely breakfast. If you want to know more about how to apply makeup, or want to add a few extra products to your look, check out my Makeup for Beginners post.
